I'm no longer living in this beautiful place, but it's future is very important to me. Venice could be consider a *monument city*, understand the value of it's historical past and cultural heritage should be the base before taking any steps towards the future. People move around walking or by boat, with private or public transportation. The hours of service for public transportation change through different seasons and are limited during evening/night hours. The residents of this art city are divided in different categories: 1. Locals that have established their activities in the center, they work and live here 2. Residents that moved out the city mostly because of the flood problems getting worse every year, and they come daily to work in Venice by train 3. College students that come from all over the world and populate areas around universities 4. College students that come from cities around Venice and take a daily trip by train. ---------- Massive urban tourism brings another big impact in the city, we have: 1. Daily tourists that would come from other Italian cities and regions to spend the day 2. Seasonal tourists that come from all over the world for long week ends or longer vacations 3. Wedding tourists or honeymooners 4. Tourists that participate to cruises and would stop for the day without bringing a lot of contribution to the local economy ---------- Many elements are needed to help the future of this city: - Reduce the continuous floods that are making impossible work and live in Venice would help the local economy, reducing the damage for restaurants and stores, making life easier for daily commuters and locals, giving more freedom to elderly people - A program for more sustainable tourism - Clean energy for transportation along the canals - Less bureaucracy to limit the long process to get things done!
