Exercise 1 - Vancouver, BC
FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2014-10-28 by k_negm
1. Visible info: - A large creek separates the downtown core from the rest of the city. - The downtown core is predominantly high-rise. - 3 Bridges connect the downtown with the rest of the city. - A rapid transit line is seen at the bottom of the picture. - There are a few empty lots that could still be developed at the waterfront. - There's a lot of yachts, ferries and marinas indicating an active sailing and water transportation culture. 2. Invisible info: - The travel patterns to and from the downtown core, across the creek, at different times of the day and using different modes of transport. - The economic, socio-political, and cultural potential of developing the empty lots. 3. If we took the first point as a case study, all the data and information gathered about the numbers and types of vehicles crossing the 3 bridges, as well as the number of people using public transit, to and from the downtown core, at different times of day, we can generate valuable knowledge that could inform the design of potential new developments on the empty lots.
