FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"

Although most of the city center was bombed during the 2nd WW, there are still traces visible of beautiful architecture from before the war like 'Het Stadhuis' (which you can see in the far left corner). New buildings are built every year, some of them will be torn down soon and others will stay. Hence, Rotterdam has a combination of very modern and progressive architecture and the more traditional and also a few 'ugly' '90's style buildings. Because of the continuous construction in an attempt to create a better and more beautiful, liveable and dynamic city, you will always run into some sort of roadblock for which you have to change direction. Therefore mobility patterns in the city change all the time. And this counts for almost all modes of transport; trams, cars, bicycles, motorcycles.... and you legs. Another aspect of the city, which is quite difficult to see in the picture (on street level), is the increase of coffee corners, sandwich shops, bars etc. For the past few years Rotterdam has been transforming itself from a down to earth working city, to a down to earth working and - we-can-enjoy-ourselves-too-city. It's being transformed from a very fragmented space to a more heterogeneous place. So although now the coffee bars etc. are quite visible, there used to be an invisible pattern of people walking towards the end of the street. Not knowing where to go and walking back. ![enter image description here][1] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14141695978413845.jpg
