The invisible Oslo
FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"

This picture show different common communion options in a suburban area in Oslo, Norway. I apologize for the poor lighting in this picture, but Norway at this time of year it is always dark. This picture shows: the subway lines, cars in a queue and a person riding a bike. On the top of this small hill, there is a traffic light with sensors to detect if there are cars stopping for a red light, giving information to the traffic light queuing system that there is a car waiting for a green light. This hidden information can be used to give information about the traffic flow of the this particular area. In order to do so, the sensor systems need to be adapted and the information stored. If successful, the information can be used to improve planning of a livable urban space. An other invisible information in this picture, is a city tax registration point just before this picture is taken. However, there is only a city tax for cars going in to the city, not the bikers. The existing city tax for cars gives information only on the cars going into the city, however, with adding extra sensors to detect bicycles and cars going both directions, this can add valuable information in city planning.
