I was absolutely fascinated by the reasons why some spaces and playgrounds in HDB (Housing Development Board - Singapore's public housing units) areas were deserted and other ones felt vibrant. Prior to independence in 1965, Singapore was rocked by a series of racial riots. Racial harmony is a now key plank of the country's success and this is socialised into the population through residential communities. **Invisible information** *Human traffic* at this playgound. Numbers of people using the playground facilities. Can be tracked over time of the day and days of the week to see what are the patterns. Qualitative and quantitative *measures of bonding* between people using the playground areas, by demographic characteristics. **Application for Urban Planning** *Human traffic* - Comparisons of human traffic in the playground across areas can determine the key factors that encourage high playground usage. Given Singapore's space constraints, land use is important. [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14136511963029049.jpg
