Hi everyone, I uploaded a picture from a pedestrian street in Bordeaux, France. The fact the street is in a car free area makes it relatively pleasant to walk here. Alongside the 1.4 km long street, shops occupy the first floor of every building. Many people come here for shopping and as you can see the street is often very crowded. The phenomenon is particularly acute because the street is relatively narrow. Besides, the popularity of this street generates many disturbances that you cannot see on this picture. First of all, the crowd is very loud. If the street is a nice place for shopping it is unpleasant to live there because of the noise. At any time of the day and night people walk across the street and generate noise. This creates disturbances and generally prevent people to live there. Secondly all these shops produce much waste (cardboard, dustbin). However Bordeaux is an old cities and buildings do not have the modern facilities to stock all these wastes. That explains why shop's bins are generally located in backyard street. It is particularly unpleasant for the resident (smell, feeling of insecurity, etc.) and anyone who walk in this street. I believe with a specific analysis of the noise in the street we could develop a system to reduce the noise in the street. It is possible to isolate building with modern windows but this relatively expensive and people like to open their window during summer days. I think we could reduce the noise by developing system which traps the sound. Sound trap already exists to reduce sound inside a building but does not exist yet for the outside. This solution would be relatively cheap and beneficial for everyone. [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14145970651137021.jpg
