View of Biscayne Bay underneath the Key Biscayne Bridge

FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"

Uploaded on 2014-10-22 by Adrien_N

The location is a view of the Biscayne Bay area underneath the Key Biscayne bridge in Miami, Fl. The bay is used for recreational use for private boat owners, snorkelers, deep sea divers etc, waterways for marine life What is visible here are the buildings creating the city skyline along with people kayaking on the water, fishing and relaxing in the area. There are individuals walking and playing with their dogs and a bicycle being used as a tool for exercise by yours truly. The invisible are the ships and boats that use this bay as a thoroughfare to move from one location to another and how that affects marine life e.g. manatees getting caught by propellers. It is important to be able to track location and patterns of movement for the manatees to ensure their safety and develop a healthy respect for their presence by enforcing policies that restrict certain boat speeds based on this data. The number of people who frequent the bay on a daily basis with pets, cycling and quality time spent with family begs the question are there any safeguards to disposing of personal garbage or animal waste? Tracking high traffic times and scheduling waste removal from receptacles by government agencies, the development of dog parks and bike lanes with rest stops should help to alleviate this issue. Those using the bay for recreational use, are they destroying coral or hunting endangered marine life? How does the mainland activity affect marine life waterways long term? The fish that are caught, are they edible for human consumption based on human traffic across the water? Create signs providing educational campaigns on importance of protecting the waterways from materials dangerous to marine life such as plastics, this also aids in developing a conscious respect for the surrounding environment in order for its beauty to be protected. Enforce fines to ensure proactive steps are being taken to adhere to these rules and regulations. [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14139547548569529.jpg
