Social Architecture in Washington Square Park
FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"

Washington Square Park is filled with so many different people for many different reasons, that the its social architecture is quite significant: artists, people on lunch break, parents with kids, students, tourists, homeless,... . The list can be longer. One invisible information would be the way people walk through the park and why; maybe it is aesthetic cues, enjoyment of watching the many different activities and performances, or just having a shorter way? Maybe it is combining the way to a destination with a quick recreation in the park. This information can be used to determine how public spaces like parks can be designed in a way that people use them. The second invisible information would be at what point would people stop and sit or lay down and why; is it to rest, eat lunch, sightseeing, mingle, have a coffee or a mini vacation? Is the park serving these needs or do people adapt the environment to their needs? My choice for invisible information to become knowledge would be the pattern how people cut through the park and what is along the way they choose to take, as well as what is along the ways they don't take. People's travel behavior can tell a lot about how to design public spaces that enhances the life of city dwellers. ![enter image description here][1] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14133283918299496.jpg
