The photo was taken in a small one-way street which has high-density commercial activities. 2. numerous Billboards It is a mixed-use residential area so we can see a lot of billboards are hang up on the facade of these buildings. 3. continuous Arcades Arcade, which is a peculiar building style in Taiwan. It’s kind of intermediary space between streets and shops at the side of a building. And the space can provides pedestrians a covered pavement to pass without getting wet in the rain because Taiwan has a humid subtropical climate with a long rainy season. Invisible parts: 1. Businessman try to emphasize their billboard as big as they can to attract the consumers to visit. It just like a billboard competition. However, these huge and heavy billboards make pedestrians under the potentially dangerous situation when they pass through the street. In addition, it makes the appearance of the street disorderly with these all kinds of mix-size and color boards. 2. Arcade space are supposed to be used for pedestrians to pass through and let the commercial activities can continue during the bad weather. As we can see, most of their first floor are used for commercial purpose. However, this photo shown that most of the arcades were blocked by their private stuff. Eventually it became a kind of extended space for business but not the accessible space for pedestrians. It is a chaos when cars, motorbikes, consumers, residents, pedestrians, everything come together in this small and crowded mix-use residential area. It is better to simplify and design it to be more people-oriented street. To separate pedestrian from vehicle activity and return the right to the pedestrians with implementing sufficient regulation by government to prohibit businessman from occupying the arcades area. By this way, it’s possible to become much friendly and livable space to everybody.
