FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2014-10-29 by DB94
1. Visible information: A new MTR (metro) station is under construction; a double-decker diesel bus is on the road; the road here is single carriage with overtaken forbidden (thick central lines in road); the traffic drives on the left; the buildings are close to the road meaning little pavement space; there are people walking around, the traffic flow here seems quiet (it isn’t always); there are some historic trees by the side of the road. 2. Invisible information: 1) Once the MTR station is in operation you can get information from the travel records (most MTR and bus trips are recorded by smart cards) as to how many passengers switch to the new metro at the expense of the bus route versus other modes of transport or people simply making more (or fewer) journeys with the MTR open. 2) Health records (looking for respiratory illnesses) can be cross referenced with the usage of diesel buses both over time in this fixed locale, and in different places (locally and globally) which use lower-emission vehicles, to attempt to gauge the harm from older, dirtier engines. 3. Knowledge and contribution: On how many people switch to the MTR, giving an idea of the redundancy of the bus route, the transport department can then use this information to decide whether the bus route is now redundant or over-supplied, and bring into service new or altered routes to make more places accessible to public transport and therefore better the lives of residents in under-served areas. ![enter image description here][2] [1]: http:// [2]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14145812731034127.jpg
