Exercise 1 Making the invisible visible I have taken a photo of my neighborhood dwellings. Visible – the photo indicates the living culture of the expatriate manpower – living in high rise buildings in flats. The color of the most buildings very pale brownish-yellow color – almost in sync with the desert conditions of its soil and to ensure that heat is not absorbed. You can see communication towers, cable TV receiver antennas, water tanks, centralized air conditioned equipment on the roof tops. The invisible information – it can be easily deduced that most of the population living in these flats are expats. Why, because kuwaities would like to live in independent houses. This locality is in Mahboula, a place where there are very few independent houses. If there is an independent house, this will not be multi-storied and it will be on the beach. A rich Kuwaiti or a highly skilled western expat might have rented it. This information is deduced from the location not visible in the photo. Second information is that you can see most of this expat population living here is Indian. How? Look at the orientation of the antennas of cable TV receivers. All are pointing out in one particular direction. That is to catch Indian television channels beamed from the INSAT Indian satellites. Arabic satellites will be pointed distinctly some other direction. Well the invisible information for future planning is that Kuwaities reliance on expat workforce should be brought down. Kuwaities should learn to live in shared dwellings, not to live in exclusivity. Government should stop giving house loans for independent houses and bring about this change to encourage them in living in flats like all the rest of the humanity. There is no shame in living and sharing the resources that optimize energy, space, costs. [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14179662331650531.jpg
