Average backyard/alley in Albany Park, Chicago, IL, USA
FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"

This is the backyard then alley behind my apartment in the Albany Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL. The main infrastructure present is the apartment buildings, the power lines to each building, the storage areas for people's cars who have private parking (the side streets are constantly full of parked cars), and the small amount of green space for living, play, or gardens. Two invisible info is how the space is used in the interior parts of an average neighborhood filled with old two-and three-flat apartments and how hard it will be to change anything about this situation. It also shows how the alleys are situated to provide waste removal, utilities access, and personal car storage. Given how the space is being used effectively, no infrastructure changes are needed at the moment. However, real-time information on how often the alley is blocked could increase traffic flow and reduce stress for the residents in the area. Additionally, the pavement could be replaced with a porous pavement to decrease flooding and pothole formation. [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14181768089354082.jpg
