With its geographical location at the Northen part of Mindanao, Southern Philippines, it has been a trading post in the early century and a continues to be a developing city. People/Population and Density are one of the most important part of the stocks and flows. The people that live here before were the old clans which were organized by the Early Spanish colony. Migration happened thru the years. As the city is one of the most developed cities in Southern Philippines, a lot of people from the less urbanized places in Southern Philippines migrate or study (in case of students) in Cagayan de Oro. I consider myself as one of the flows since I am not originally from this City and have settled here for study and work. Nevertheless, if I eventually settled here for good, I might be considered as part of the stock as population and or density is concerned. Food is important for daily survival. CDO does not have an urban farm. However, its nearby provinces such as highlands of Bukidnon have allowed a constant flow of raw products such as food into the city. Though some of the food that is being sold in the city especially in the malls are coming from Manila or other provinces in the North or Central Philippines or imported from other countries. Water is one of the reasons of the location and development of this city. Cagayan de Oro was established as a settlement in the 16th century because it is located near the river (now Cagayan River) that connects to the sea. Potable water which is consumed by the people comes from the mountains as a water reservoir. This represents the stock. When water is distributed to the different parts of the city and consumed by the people it will be translated as flow. Land is affected by the changes in the city or the urban sprawl. Uptown CDO has increased its land value generally when a typhoon has hit the lower parts of the city 2 years ago. The old parts of the city mostly composed of chalets structures or art deco inspired buildings have been replaced by modern structures. Land continues to be a valuable stock in the city. However though the city is not increasing its land area, the changes that happen to the land makes represents a flow. Capital will determine if how much could the city afford development and also how much people will actually be able to survive the daily living costs. Cagayan de Oro has developed fast in the recent years. More buildings have sprung up in the city. Manila-based businesses have expanded here especially malls and residential developments which could indicate a strong or promising capital. This could be inferred as the flow. The stock capital would mean the capital which is within the city - local businesses, workforce, intellectual capacity of the people/people who were able to finish studies, etc. **Question 3:** I believe that this information of stocks and flows will enable the people who are responsible in the overseeing of the development of the city to better understand the current and future needs of the city and will guide them to formulate new policies and urban designs to better address the existing problems and projected changes the city might have in the future all for a better life for the people living in the city and the protection of the natural environment as well.
