In general, stocks and flows in an urban scale correspond to the life of a city and as a consequence, the life of its inhabitants. Stocks and flows command the three main pieces of the urban process: social system; environmental system and built system. The supply (energy, resources) and the waste (emissions) are some of the flows created in a city life cycle. Stocks are stable, and they are supplied by flows. In Ireland, especially in Sligo, the three main flows entering continously are food; energy and water. As mentioned in the video class, "In the city, water is used as a stock in lakes, drinking water reservoirs, or in individual water tanks on, in, and below buildings." Even Ireland being a country which has an amazing landscape and existing agriculture, the majority of the food came from supermarkets (TESCO as an example - originally British supermarket). This is an example of flow: food production and transportation. Not just in Ireland, but all the world, stocks and flows can be observed, once this concept characterize the urban metabolism. And not just for the actual development and growth of cities, urban metabolism helps and will increasingly help in the process of sustainability (that is a key factor in cities now and also in the future).
