Some of the flows in Mexico City are drinking water, food and people. Mexico DF it's not only a big city but an overpopulated one. The amount of people that inhabit generates demand for food and water that cannot be produce or obtain directly from the city, it isn´t self-sufficient. So, if there are around 9 millions of people living in the city, the amount of food and water that enter is massive, as much as 34 430 litres of water per second. This city doesn’t finish with the political frontiers, the space of the metropolis expands even to another states, which makes it very complex and change the dynamic. Instead of follow a model of compact city, México City is expanding, guide in par for an american model, suburbs, but principally because of the lack of planning. Center vs periphery, the second one is much more affordable for living, but the jobs are in the center (not talking about the historical one) so the distances that the average people has to travel are way bigger that some years ago, that creates a flow of transit in public and private transport moving in, across or out of the city depending on the time of the day. There are many things that can improve if we talk about this subject, if the amount of people traveling big distances could be reduce the traffic, the pollution, the amount of gasoline would go down too. The solution is not easy but if we start planning base on compact city models, or even if the public transportation infrastructure is improve it might have a positive impact in the city dynamic which currently is gulping the city. The culture is an important stock, not only talking about the historic buildings but the universities, museums, theaters and again not referring exclusively to the cultural infrastructure, but the cultural life, the artist, musicians, writers, plays, art expositions, etc. This should be kept this way, so the art grants and other ways of finance the culture can´t be cut out of the state budget.
