FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 2: "Stocks and Flows"

Significant stock and flow of people, information and material (goods and services) are highly noticeable here. Being a historical commercial centre, people move from mainland areas to this area en-mass for commercial activities, there’s also a high density of offices whose employees are mostly residents of far hinterland areas of the mainland. The movement of people to this area during the day generate a high stock of people, while returning after the day’s activity to their various residencies reduces the congestion here and amounts to flow (hence creating a stock of huge traffic congestion along the route back to the mainland especially on the Third mainland bridge which connects the mainland Lagos to the Lagos island). Also, people pass information via mobile phones about the business proficiency of this area which also brings about high level of stock and flow of more materials and labour every other day. On the territorial scale, business activities around the festive seasons at this area is always very intense causing a flow of people resident in some other States across the nation to create a stock of more people and materials for business activities. However, the population vanish with low commercial and business activities on the event days as most people would have returned to their various homes and states to celebrate the festivity with their relatives. However with growing regional urbanization and even development of cities across the state and nation as a whole, especially with the introduction of shopping malls and other business and leisure oriented structures, the stock at Lagos Island will continue to reduce as people and materials will be evenly distributed and encouraged to engage in business activities at area within their region. ![enter image description here][1] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14177047604013013.jpg
