Ans. The ecosystem services in and around Guwahati are as follows - **Provisioning Services** The image below is a large mustard field located in the eastern side of the city of Guwahati. Along with the production of food, it also is economically beneficial for the area. Considering the fact that area is not highly developed, the production and selling of mustard is one of the main source of their livelihood. ![][1] **Regulating Services** The city of Guwahati is surrounded by mountains and forests on all its side. Though the city itself has developed a lot in the urban front, the surrounding zones have maintained its natural system. The mountains and the forests does excellent work in keeping the climate clean and air fresh. City is also well protected from storms due to its presence. Unfortunately, the effects in the centre of the city is not very evident due to effects of urban pollution and urban heat island effect. ![][2] ![][3] **Habitat Or Supporting Services** The image below shows the dense forest at the background and animals roaming around the small pond/swamp for food and water. The forest is home to various animals and wildlife and is rich in vegetation, including medicinal plants. ![][4] **Cultural Services** Sacred fig or peepal tree, as popularly known in India, is a native tree to India. It has a huge girth and foliage shading a huge area in its surrounding and refreshing the air around. It has a lot of religious significance in the Hindu religion and is found in many temples and other religious places. Also, since it is considered religious, no harm is caused to the tree even if grown outside the religious precinct.
