**a. Provisioning services** ![Isar2][1] The river *Isar*, which has its source in the alps, flows through Munich and later into the river Donau. The water has almost perfect drinking quality. However, I do not think that it is the source of the cities *fresh water* supply; this is mainly derived from ground water. (The picture above is from October 2013) **b. Regulating services** ![Hofgarten, Munich][2] The *Hofgarten* in the picture above is only one of many parks in the heart of Munich. There are lots of trees providing shade and cooling. They may not have leaves yet, but they will do their job in summer and improve the *local climate and air quality* in the city. **c. Habitat or Supporting services** ![Isar][3] One goal of the city government in the last 10 years was the re-naturalizing of the river *Isar*. It is today again a *habitat for species*; ducks, goose, fish, squirrels and many more small animals are living in this inner city ecosystem. Additionally, it is a popular place for all citizens; sunbathing, walking the dog or running are all common activities in this area. **d. Cultural services** ![Feldherrenhalle][4] In this picture you can see one of many attractions of Munich: the *Feldherrenhalle*. All year round, tourists from all over the world come to see and experience the charm and the humble magnificence of the so called "smallest village in the world". Indeed, cultural *tourism* is very important to Munich.
