There are 2 main types of fossil fuel used in my country namely, coal and oil products. Natural gas is starting to be used here it is still very rare. - Where are the dominant fossil fuels mainly used for in your country? From the diagram coal is used primarily for industry in particular, of nonmetallic minerals. A smaller portion is used for food and tobacco. Oil is used in various sectors in our society it is not surprising to me that the main consumer of oil product is the transportation industry. It is the sentiment of the majority that traffic situation in the Philippines is getting unbearable. Our heavy dependence on the oil is starting to affect the air quality within the cities. Though residential, commercial and industrial sectors also contribute to the consumption of oil products, they are no match for the consumption of the transportation industry. - It is your task to create a new policy in order to improve the environmental friendly and sustainable sources and consumption of energy of your country. How would you do that? ![enter image description here][1] Policies to be inferred: 1) Create better public transportation system so that the private sector can curb their oil consumption. this can be done in to ways namely: Creating a rapid bus system that have regularized pick-up points, dedicates lanes, and a structured bus schedules. The idea is similar to the Transmilenio in Columbia. Another is extending the lines of the current rails system, adding more carts and extending hours. The current rail infrastructure is inefficient and needs a big upgrade. 2) Support initiatives for alternative fuel: Electricity, Biogas and Solar Power for vehicular transportation should take precedent in research. 3) Let people cycle. Create infrastructure and conditions that will make it safe and comfortable for people to cycle short distances. Create dedicated bike lanes, shield them with trees and parked cars, encourage bike racks on busses and trains for easier commute etc... If we can curb our oil product consumption of the transportation industry it would be a significant percentage of the total consumption. The rest of the sectors who do not consume as much oil will see that there are alternatives and hopefully they will follow. [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14494562411418045.png
