1. Safety 2. Job Opportunities 3. Housing 4. Recreational Facilities 5. Transportation **2. Why do we live where we live?** I live in Guwahati. It is located in the North-Eastern Part of India. I live here primarily because of the following reasons - ![][1] **a. Family is Here :** The primary reason I live in Guwahati is because my family lives here. I enjoy being with my closed ones. **b. Residential Area and Safe :** To be precise, I live in the Survey area of Guwahati. This area has some of the good residential facilities in the city. This area is comparatively safe from the rest of the city with lower crime rate and a good and healthy neighbourhood. The neighbourhood is reliable and dependable. ![][2] **c. Proximity to the Basic Necessities Of Living:** The city of Guwahati is divided into several pockets and smaller zones and apart from a few neglected areas of the city, the residents of most of the pockets have easy and convenient access to health care, education, public transport and commerce. Though I would not say that they are all in perfect condition as they need a lot of improvement in all the sectors, but in case of an emergency, facilities are a few steps away. To talk specifically, the Survey area (place of my residence) has all these facilities in a 1 km radius. Also, the city is well connected to the rest of the country which is a big advantage. ![][3] **d. People :** I have my family here. But apart from that, the people here are generous and kind. They are helpful and reliable. **e. Environment :** Even though the city is growing tremendously on the infrastructural aspect, yet there is a lot of greenery all around. The city of Guwahati is surrounded by mountains and hills, adding a lot of aesthetic and climatic value to the city. This also helps maintaining a decent and healthy surrounding, though of course, the effects of climate change and global warming is evident. ![][4] **3. To what extend does your own place of residence fulfill your ideal livability criteria?** The ratings of Guwahati - 1. Safety - 65/100 2. Job Opportunities - 55/100 3. Housing - 60/100 4. Recreational Facilities - 50/100 5. Transportation - 50/100 Overall Rating Of Guwahati - 55/100 **4. What would you change?** If I had the power to bring change into the city of Guwahati, I would, firstly like to improve the public transport system. Even though the overall city is well connected through various medium, the infrastructure is not safe. Open doors of buses en-route, extremely high prices of auto-rickshaws are only a few problems to be named. Having a safe vehicle is necessary to keep in mind considering the safety of the passengers. Also, I would propose proper bus stands with easy access to the buses making it convenient for the children and old people. Secondly, I would want to introduce more recreational spaces or community spaces for people to interact in the form of more parks and squares. As of now, the recreational spaces available in Guwahati are very few and are in closed boundaries. Though minimal, but a payment is required to access the parks. I would like to propose more of open spaces with easy access to bring in a sense of belonging for people of the community. Adding one such space in every community will even be beneficial for the environment. With introduction of more landscaped area in the city, the city will be more greener than it is now, eventually creating an impact on the overall climatic condition of not only the concerned community but to the entire city. And in the long run, will add in improving the climatic issues of the globe. Also, I would like to clear the footpaths off the vendors. I would insist on providing efficient and proper shops for the vendors at well to do locations and clear the footpaths for the easy and comfortable use of the public. **5.
