------------------------------ a) Safety b) Job Opportunities c) Infrastructure d) Recreation Possibilities e) Health Care 2. Why I (temporarily) live in Barranquilla, Colombia: ------------------------------------------------------ *Note: I live in Colombia for one year as exchange student, but will return to Germany soon.* 1. Personal Growth (living and studying abroad) 2. Cultural and Linguistic Preferences (Spanish, Latin-American Culture) 3. Climate (allows for recreational activities, not within the city but at close distance) 4. Education (good university and availability of exchange program) 5. Cost of Living (cheaper than most German or English speaking countries) ![Universidad del Norte, Barranquilla. The cooperation with this university is one of the main reasons I live here.][1] Universidad del Norte, Barranquilla, Colombia. The cooperation with this university is one of the main reasons I currently live here. 3. Barranquilla ranked in my Top Livability Criteria: ----------------------------------------------------- 1. Safety: 50 / 100 2. Job Opportunities : 40 / 100 3. Infrastructure: 40 / 100 4. Recreation Possibilities: 50 / 100 5. Health Care: 40 / 100 General Livability Score: 55 / 100 4. What I would change: ----------------------- **Waste Management**: Usual households just have one garbage bin for everything which makes recycling of plastics close to impossible. Also, biodegradable materials cannot be separated from the rest. There are specialized locations to drop of different kinds of waste so they can be processed adequately, but no one ever goes there because it is just not practical carrying your garbage through half of the city once or twice a week. Apart from waste separation, incentives and education are needed to reduce the production of waste, (e.g. plastic bags in supermarket). **Public Transportation**: While building a subway may not be that easy here, at least the system of buses should be controlled to some extent. Currently, many private companies manage a huge amount of bus routes throughout the city. There is probably a lot of optimization potential in collecting transport data and optimizing routes. 5. Where I would move and why: ------------------------------ **Nuremberg, Germany:** Language and Culture, Job Opportunities, Safety, Recreational Activities, Health Care **Toronto, Canada:** Job Opportunities, Personal Growth, High Standard of Living, Climate, Language and Culture **Auckland, New Zealand:** Recreational Activities, Climate, Language and Culture, Personal Growth, Job Opportunities [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14598961401466882.jpg
