Norwegian engineer living outside the city
FC-02x Livable Future Cities ( 2nd Run) - First Discussion

My motivation to follow this course is to try my first MOOC, and secondly it's because it was the most interesting topic I could find (with a little effort). Started today (a little late). I expect to learn some more about criterias for living (in a city), as I come from the countryside. **Livability** is the circumstances that enables life to unfold. We all have basic needs, as Maslows pyramid shows: ![Livability][1] I think these criterias define livability well, and they bring some consequences. For example: Our need for food (and work etc.) triggers transportation, that again triggers infrastructure. This is at least the case in cities, where food isn't produced. **Livable cities** I have never lived in a city, my arguments against doing so is: - Lack of free (green) space (for recreation, safe areas for kids to play etc.) - Noise - Too many people in a relatively small area I **hope** that cities will become more livable for those wanting to live there, and of course for the sake of our environment. **Sustainable urban development** I really don't know, but I hope to get some input during this course! Reducing energy need, waste, carbon footprint, noise and increasing green areas/lungs, and building sustainable using lasting materials.
