-------------------------- While Macau, as SAR of China, is not listed in the list, I will discuss the case of People's Republic of China. China is a huge country as well as massive population, thus having a large amount of energy demand. Coal dominates as the major source of energy, with most of which are produced in the nation. Where are the dominant fossil fuels mainly used for in your country? -------------------------- In 2013, most of the coal consumption goes to industries. However, interestingly, most of oil consumption goes to transportation, and coal used is rather negligible. ![Consumption in industry - China][1] ![Consumption of Transportation - China][2] It is your task to create a new policy in order to improve the environmental friendly and sustainable sources and consumption of energy of your country. How would you do that? -------------------------- China is facing serious air pollution right now, with major cities like Beijing and Shanghai suffering haze and extreme air quality. While Macau is in good condition, it is still affected by haze particles from Guangzhou or northern places by wind movement. It is clear that usage of unclean coal and oil dominates the cause of massive air pollution. Although it's easy to think of controlling or restricting use of fossil fuels, it is not practical as China may slow down or even lose its economical growth, which is the primary goal of China. China is actually making progress to decrease the use of coal, closing down coal mines in northern China such as Shanxi, such movements only decreases the supply of fossil energy. In this case I would recommend delivering policies to reduce demand of them - spread the idea of subway, or MRT, into middle or smaller cities, as Germany does, to reduce the need of private cars; create more green areas in city areas to absorb pollutants, preventing them to spread; invest more taxes on delivering more renewable resources; give rewards to individuals and organizations who save energy, and/or promoting use of clean energy.
