The dominant fossil fuels mainly used for transport and industry. The first obvious policy would be to encourage and facilitate domestic solar electrical generation. Rooftops are plentiful. Transmission networks can be easily altered to allow two-way traffic. The use of domestic batteries and autonomous electric cars (domestic batteries on wheels) would permit the transmission networks to be used as local networks where you literally buy electricity from your neighbour. The second obvious policy would facilitate electricity demand management. The transmission network can be used to send messages to domestic appliances to tell/ask them to reduce their power draw from time to time. Air-conditioners and heaters are the obvious ones that could reduce their demand at peak times, to reduce the peaks, without the occupants even noticing that the room temperature had altered a degree or two for a few minutes here and there. ![Domestic solar][1] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14610302857953242.jpg
