The dominant fossil fuels used in Spain are oil and gas. The total energy consumption of the country is about 81.4 Mtoe. and a great part of it comes from fossil fuels importation. This is not only environmentally unsustainable but also economically unaffordable. ![][1] ![][2] However, it is interesting to notice that something different occurs in Colombia (my place of birth), where the majority part of its energy production goes to exportation and only consumes 24.7 Mtoe. ![][3] **2. Where are the dominant fossil fuels mainly used for in your country?** The fossil fuels are mainly used for transport and industry in Spain. **3. It is your task to create a new policy in order to improve the environmental friendly and sustainable sources and consumption of energy of your country. How would you do that**? Since 1996 the solar and wind production of energy has grown in Spain. This is the consequence of some interesting policies that have been implemented in the country. ![Wind production in Zujar Spain][4] Although these actions are a good example in how to seize the particular weather conditions of the country to be sustainable, the majority are focused on the big scale production. Therefore, it would be interesting to implement small scale measures in order to involved citizen’s participation in the energy production. Not only would It be useful to create more sustainable housing, it would help to reduce the fossil fuels importation through renewable energy generation and storage. On the other hand, an important part of energy is consumed by the industry and transportation. Therefore, it would be particularly important to reduce the use of cars and promote the use of public transport. Furthermore, it would be interesting to encourage the industry sector to avoid the generation of products built-in obsolescence and overproduction.
