The distance from my home to work is short, only up to 1 km, therefore use of a car is unnecessary (and as a matter of fact, I do not have one). Since I live on a very steep hill, cycling would be funny, adventurous, and slightly dangerous to myself and everyone I would pass by when descending, and a truly creative means of torture when returning home. In the cases of extreme laziness or a severe injury, another option would be to take a bus. Fortunately, a bus stop is right in front of my house. Unfortunately, the local bus goes around the whole village, with my bus stop being at the beginning of the route and the final stop being by coincidence the one closest to my work. So the whole bus journey takes about 30-40 minutes, and that is an insane amount of time compared with less than 10 minutes of walking. Going every day afoot, I consider the traffic fine, very fine indeed. Environment and the views I have on my route would not change even if I chose any other means of transportation (this, however, does not apply to the bus ride which unintentionally includes sightseeing). On the other hand, I have more time to stop by something that catches my attention and take a closer look and/or a picture when I am walking. That could be potentially dangerous when driving, and utterly impractical on a bike. All things considered, walking is indeed the best choice that maximises my happiness, yet I will never be able to convince myself about this simple truth when walking that steep hill home, losing my breath every single time. ![][1] **Route: Mode of Transportation; Time, Distance** Blue: Car; 2 min, 800 m Green: Walk (or Bicycle); 10 min (4 min), 700 m [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14622248031033625.png
