![TABLE OF ROUTES][2] Given the geographical location of Doha and the extreme heat experienced from early April to late October it is really necessary to travel with a mode of transport that has air conditioning hence everybody uses cars or buses as the main mode of transport. Therefore my mode of transport to and from work is a car. Travel times differ drastically from early morning to evening adding approx 20mins to transport time. The motorists driving behavior is not one of mutual respect making driving a very dangerous mode of transport but the only feasible option. Depending on the size of the car, the driving experience can vary from scary to enjoyable. The majority of cars are SUV's who are fearless on the roads making driving in a smaller car a very anxiety ridden experience. Happiness levels are high when I get to the destination as it means I am obviously still alive. The car is the best mode of transport as it gives the user a sense of freedom. You can chose when you leave your home and how you get to work based on your own judgement of the traffic either from radio or applications that give you an up to date report. As an architect the city is developing beautifully providing many landmark buildings that break up the monotony of a otherwise anxious drive. There is generally parking at all major destinations. Walking, if the temperature permitted would be a feasible option if the weather was more forgiving though distances are still quite far. Cycling is an almost no go is a city where driving etiquette is not valued. Furthermore it is not safe as there are no dedicated cycle paths. Lastly buses could be an option though the bus times are not frequent at all. The two buses that go in a round about way to my work leave at 45 min intervals and never on time which means you could be waiting out in the open during the summer for an hour or more. There is a metro being built - 4 lines - that will serve to transport visitors during the 2022 World Cup and there is generally a large amount of development related to infrastructure - particularly roads and transport networks. In the wintery months you can sometimes see motorbikes though even though disappear in the long hot summer months.
