Our city, since it was created during a really polemic political era and in a time where cars were arriving to Brazil, had the purpose to only move the citizens by cars - a very utopic idea. Nowadays, we do use and have a lot of cars, but we also have other types of transportation like bikes and public service buses. However, Brasília is the city of Brazil where a lot of citizens uses there cars to move from a place to another. Because of this, and other factors, like distance and quality of the transportation for example, my usual mode of transportation from my home to my university is my car. Above, there's a chart with 3 ways of getting to my university with their respective times and distances. So, according to the chart, why do I use car as my mode transportation? Well, first of all, because of the safety. Brazil is a really violant country and our public transport in not so good and not so cheap, becoming a really bad cost-benefit option. By bike is not an option because there are no bike lines through ALL Brasília's territory, becoming really unsafe to ride through the city, not to mention that there's no sufficient space on a bike to carry all the architecture material. Second, the time. Even getting a really bad traffic, moving by car compensates more than getting a bus or your bike. The difference of time is unbeliavable! Finally, the hapiness. Although is not the most friendly transportation when it comes to the environment, in Brasília, moving by car still pays off much more than any other type of transportation. You are safe, you don't waste a lot of time and you can carry a lot of materials that you will need in class, without thinking about how much space you have.
