I live in Belgrano, a neighborhood, near the campus of the University of Buenos Aires. The route I usually take is “route 1”, because I think that taking the Bus is the most convenient mode of transportation, its affordable, the bus lines have well equipped units and since is a short distance ( 3 km) it’s quite a fast travel. Besides I enjoy looking the urban landscape and the bus stop is only 3 blocks away from home. For me, it’s the route that makes me happier and it’s also the safer one. “Route 2” means walking which is a healthy alternative for going to university but it’s also a time consuming activity because it takes me about 40 minutes walking to campus. I have evening classes at the Faculty of Architecture and to get into campus I have to go through a square and a highway which are a bit dangerous and unpleasant so I almost never take this route. Cycling is the healthiest choice of all modes of transportation but Buenos Aires is having a changing weather so riding a bike it’s not always a convenient choice for me. In the case of raining, you and all of your stuff get wet and sometimes during flooding, streets become like rivers and can be dangerous for cyclist. Moreover I don’ take this route because even though, there are good cycle lanes, drivers don’t care about cyclist and there are a lot of accidents. The fourth route includes driving a car. This mode of transportation is sometimes the faster way to get into Campus but in rush hour is the slowest one. Having a car is not only expensive but is also difficult because you have to find a place to park in and basically it means being stuck in traffic all the time. I never use this mode of transportation because I feel that driving to campus is a stressful situation and wouldn’t make me happy at all. Finally, I usually take the bus because I think is the most convenient mode of transportation and I’m a strong supporter of public transportation because using it reduces travel by private vehicles so it help to reduce congestion. Besides using public transportation is one of the most effective actions individuals can take to reduce their energy use and carbon footprints. This action far exceeds the benefits of other energy saving household activities, such as using energy efficient light bulbs.
