![ - Urban city ][2] ![urban][3] There's not significant difference between the urban and the rural parts of the city as the settlements have increase the usage of vehicles & hence fossil fuels. Due to the escalating population with a low literacy rate, energy consumption is high. In the urban areas, refrigeration n air conditioning at such a high scale add to the pollution. However, there might be a difference of 2-3 Deg C between the urban n the rural areas with the urban settlements having higher temperatures. . I would propose controlled and monitored usage n consumption of energy and fossil fuels. I would also encourage green belts and several green patch areas with water bodies to allow a comfort zone for people so that they switch of their ACs for some time at least ! I would also encourage the use of public transport amongst the public. .Yes, there are various governmental and Non - governmental organisations working for the same. But India is a country where environmental consciousness comes at the bottom of the priority list for the ministers. However, New Delhi being the most polluted city of the country and 2nd most in the world , is now being monitored . Odd-Even plans are a way for people to pool cars and use public transport. On odd days, one is only allowed to drive odd registration number cars. This may not be directly for UHI, but is definitely going to affect it. India is a hot country and temperatures can rise upto 50 deg Celsius in summers. following is a link providing some information. http://shaktifoundation.in/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Scoping-Study-for-Policy-Initiatives-to-Minimize-Urban-Heat-Island-effect1.pdf [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/1457816813325342.jpg [2]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14578168399324048.jpg [3]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14578178464550056.jpg
