There isn't any studies or data available about the UHI effect in my city, Ponce. Although, Ponce features a tropical savannah climate. The mean annual temperature in the city is 26◦C. Our average winters are 31◦C and our summers 34◦C. ![Ponce Historic District, Dowtown Ponce][1] Ponce Historic District, Dowtown Ponce ![Barrio Machuelo Abajo, Ponce][2] Barrio Machuelo Abajo, Ponce ![Barrio Maraguez, Ponce][3] Barrio Maraguez, Ponce ![Barrio Real, Ponce][4] Barrio Real, Ponce Main reasons that contribute to UHI effect in my city: 1. Lack of vegetation, especially trees, to provide shade and cooling effects and the remove of CO2. 2. Waste heat from big concentration of automobiles. 3. The use of concrete and asphalt on road and building surfaces and the lack of green and natural surfaces. **Which are the measures you would propose?** 1. Reduce the use and number of automobiles by expanding and promoting the use of public and collective transportation. 2. Increase the green surface area by reducing the area of roads, especially the space use for parallel parking with park meters. 3. Plant types of trees that actually offer efficient shading effects. **Is UHI effect concerning policy in your area?** No, this isn’t a concerning policy and there is no any initiative right now.
