In my hometown, the heating in urban areas became stronger in the last decade in accord to recent meteorological studies, which shows values up to 4 Celsius degrees (approximately 2,22°F) different from 2006. The average temperature and characteristics are not similar to any of those American cities because of their climate region, which is in most cases temperate, not tropical as Vitória. ![Even with large area occupied with constructions, Vitoria kept in its urban planning narrow streets, which follows the principles of low urban heat effects. Public Domain.][1] However, the heat temperatures between urban and rural cities can be correlated, when the perception between those two scenarios can be measured and seen checking the thermometers in the streets. The difference is near 2 to 3 Celsius degrees with intense presence of vegetation, large plain green fields, small towns and local food production with small amount of vehicles in those places. ![Rural areas, located on higher levels above the sea, concentrate better and mitigated climate. Which are the measures you would propose?** I would continue to induce locals and endorse more and more the already green culture that we have been exposed not only here in Vitoria, but in many levels such as national and international campaigns. I would propose several modifications related to green spaces, planned alleys, promote financial assistance to reallocations for people whom need to move to near their workplaces, and propose modifications on building regulations to reduce the urban heat effects. **4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area?** The enhance of green in dense urban areas is one of attitudes that is currently going on in my hometown, as well as the increasing of bicycle culture with its proper lanes and promoting events to cultivate the inhabitant’s usage.
