**2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area?** Nowadays, I live in a small village in the north-east of Catalunya and its very difficult to indentify the UHI effects. But some time ago, I lived in the city of Barcelona. Barcelona has a Mediterranean climate with mild, humid winters and warm, dry summers. Its average annual temperature is 21 °C (70 °F) during the day and 14 °C (57 °F) at night. The average annual temperature of the sea is about 20 °C (68 °F). In the coldest month – January, the temperature typically ranges from 7 to 17 °C (45 to 63 °F) during the day, 4 to 10 °C (39 to 50 °F) at night and the average sea temperature is 13 °C (55 °F).[48] In the warmest month – August, the typical temperature ranges from 26 to 32 °C (79 to 90 °F) during the day, about 23 °C (73 °F) at night and the average sea temperature is 26 °C (79 °F). Large fluctuations in temperature are rare, particularly in the summer months. Because of the proximity to the warm sea, frosts are very infrequent in the city of Barcelona. Temperatures in Barcelona always are higher than in the small villages, so Barcelonas has the Urban Heat Island Effect. Barcelona’s urban heat island effect causes markedly higher temperatures in the city than the surrounding rural areas. The difference is most pronounced at night during anticyclonic conditions in the winter with temperatures as much as 6.9ºC lower. Barcelona![Barcelona contaminada][1] Country![][2] **3. Which are the measures you would propose?** In Barcelona, there are a lot of trees in the streets and some green spaces but there are a lot of cars also. I propose to reduce private cars and use more public transport, but first we need a good quality of public transportation. And I propose to use the two rivers (Besós and Llobregat) as a green corridors, bringing in cold air to the coast. Include more green roofs in the city. **4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area?** I don’t know if the UHI effect is concerning the policy making, but in Barcelona, the local government wants to promote the public transportation.
