**2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area?** I live in moderate climate zone. Average temperatures are -10C during winter and +25C in the summer. Autumn and spring temperatures are approximately +10C. Average maximum summer temperatures are +30C, and absolute maximum is 40C. Such high temperatures last maximum one week a year and don't repeat annually. Voronezh is not so highly urbanized, comparing to U.S. cities, so I've never noticed big difference between the city center and suburban's temperature. But UHI effect is a real problem for bigger cities, like Moscow. In the summer I often go to Moscow, and can feel UHI effects. This is the center of Voronezh. There is a lot of vegetation, Voronezh is considered to be one of the greenest Russian cities. Probably this is what saves the city from high temperatures during summer. ![][1] ![][2] ![][3] This is how the typical suburban area looks: small settlements near the city, surrounded by forests ![][4] or cutivated lands ![][5] **3. Which are the measures you would propose?** Hopefully, Voronezh isn't yet in danger of such high temperatures as US cities. But the city is developing very fast, and first signs of an urban heat island already appear. To prevent this and to improve the situation in any other city, several things can be done: 1) Planting more vegetation on city streets, saving the already growing trees, using green roofs. 2) Solving traffic problems. More pedestrian and bicycle routes, less motor vehicles. 3) Making the colouring of streets lighter, so they will reject more solar energy back to space. **4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area?** The UHI effect doesn't affect policy making in Voronezh.
