The main UHI effects in Doha can be attributed to the excessive traffic in the city center particularly during the day and at peak times even though the buildings are low rise, they are considerably densely built up. It can also be attributed to the continual construction occurring around the city. This is the area that I live. ![LOW RISE CITY CENTRE][1] Alternatively the buildup of West Bay in Doha, the Central Buisness District is far more vertical with considerable space between the buildings attributing less to the UHI effect. Within the same vicinity - the Dafna Area there are low rise visas which when measured vary up to 2 degrees C lower to the area where I live. This area is also coastal which helps the temperature. ![WEST BAY][2] ![VILLAS IN DAFNA][3] 3. Which are the measures you would propose? I believe that the balance of building type in a city is necessary. A model based on the low rise buildings with narrower covered streets which is currently under development in the center of the city (Musheireb Development - http://www.msheireb.com/en-us/projects/msheirebdowntowndoha.aspx) deals more with the effects of UHI. Furthermore creating neighborhoods the size and type that are more self sufficient in energy based on the MASDAR model in Abu Dhabi, is more favorable. 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? As an effect, I do not think that UHI is concerning policymaking, though more new development is in essence Sustainable in construction and building sense. Only the much larger project developments such as Musheireb above reflect a conscientious planning strategy that includes dealing with the UHI effects. It goes without saying that these projects are few within the city. ![LANDSCAPE ALONG NEW MAJOR ARTERIES][4] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/1462108205324125.jpg [2]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14621084697029023.jpg [3]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/1462108520520461.jpg [4]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14621095559013847.jpg
