Juiz de Fora is considered a medium sized city for Brazil's parameters. It was once the main industrial city in Brazil, though and remains of that time are still visible on the industrial portion of the city. Because the city lays on a vale and spread to the hills around it, the center became very dense with almost no vegetation to be seen. As Brazil is a tropical country, temperatures get very high specially during summer, when the heat reflect on the concrete and asphalt making almost impossible to walk long distances in the center. ![rural area][1]![city center][2] 1. Which are the measures you would propose? The most important measure would be increasing the green areas in the center, not only with better maintenance of the already existing ones, but with planting more species on the existing parks and using more green roofs. 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? As far as I can tell, UHI effect concering is not a priority in my area right now.
