I live in Arequipa Peru. It is important to say that UHI effect in downtown is increasingly in my city. The main consequence I can distinguish is the big amount of vehicles and the pollution they can produce to increase the UHI effect. Also, my city has not almost any green areas, is poor of vegetation in downtown. In addition, many of the crop fields around the city core are been devastated to increase the urban sprawl. Also, I think that geography where my city is located contributes that UHI effect. The surrounding mountains trap the warm air of the city, difficulting that heat leaves the city including in night periods. ![Pollution level in city core][1] ![Surrounding green areas around the city][2] 3 . Which are the measures you would propose? Trees and vegetation help reduce the impacts of heat islands by increasing the amount of shade and cooling the air by evapotranspiration. For that reason I think that local government should implement a plan for recover green areas in the city core, and protect the surrounding green areas. 4 . Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? Regrettably, I can say that in my city in the specific aspect of UHI is really little what has been done. Local government is worried in build more concrete in the city rather than implement a plan for recover green areas.
