UHI Effects in the area One of the main problems in the past years in Monterrey, Mexico, is the traffic. The evolution and infrastructure that the city offers, is a magnet for young people, representing an actual total population of 4 000 000 aprox. habitants. This way, the lack of efficient public transportation has become a problem that generates daily traffic in the city, affecting the heat of the city and also rural areas that are transforming into cities. Monterrey is characterized by its warm climate during most of the year, but the city is also known for having a bipolar climate. During the past 10 years weather has increase from 40º C to 44º C during summer, reaching some days 48º C. While the citizens are used to this kind of climate our environment don't. Same for the rural areas that surround the city, which are becoming more industrial and less livable than in the past years. **Which measures would you propose?** I think that one of the elements for creating a livable and sustainable city is the public transportation, because it invites people to think about other transportation alternatives and to interact with their city and citizens. I also believe that construction area affects enormously our environment, sustainable and efficient buildings take care of our context, same as the regulation of construction. **Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area?** Compare to other cities, Monterrey hasn't make a regulation por taking care of the environment or any campaign that involve citizen with the UHI effect and their consequences. ![Traffic in the city of Monterrey, Mexico.
