Within the city centre itself I would plant more trees of a variety of families that would be compatible with the local environmental conditions. The trees would be pruned so that once they reached maturity the tree canopies what cover the bitumen roads and sidewalks. I would build rain gardens, and promote the reused of stormwater from roads in the immediate suburbs surrounding the city to use the storm water runoff for the use of gardens. Within the city centre itself, all solid walls the face north and west (Australia, northern hemisphere) I would legislate and provide grants for these wall elevations to be covered with green living walls that mitigate the absorption of the summer UV rays into the buildings mass. The green walls ideally would be watered with greywater from the buildings they are covering. 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area?
