*Comparison of a village in rural area (Male Krstenany in the first photo) and a capital (Bratislava in the second photo):* **Male Krstenany:** more greenery; low rise buildings (almost exclusively family houses with maximum of 2 floors), buildings far apart from each other separated by huge gardens where residents grow food or keep animals (such as hens, rabbits, sheep or bees); only one single road crosses the whole village, there is significantly less traffic (this is, however, more related to livability in general rather than to urban heat island, its causes, and effects) **Bratislava:** high rise office and apartment buildings with little space for plants, trees, and park areas in general in between; if there is any verdure, it is mostly grass because of low maintenance requirements and costs; more streets, and thus more traffic (again, this is more related to livability rather than to urban heat island) ![Male Krstenany][1] ![Bratislava][2] *Which measures would I propose?* The foremost measure I would propose would concern policy and legislation, specifically more strict laws and regulations regarding the preservation of trees in the city parks. *And concerning policy making...* As I already mentioned, there are no policies directly related to the reduction of the UHI effect in my area. On the other hand, indirect policy decisions are apparent when it comes to individual reconstruction projects (e.g. reconstruction of Safarik Square after connecting the old city and another city part with a bridge that starts here: the greenest option of the suggested design proposals was chosen).
