I live in Recife, the capital of Pernambuco, Brazil. The climate is tropical moist. The annual average is 25.8°C, só it's always hot in here. With the increase of density population and the massive constructions, there's already 11 spots in the city identifies as UHI. This areas are near to the principal urbans roads and the temperature increases almost 7°C compared with the average of the city. ![temperature graph - Recife. So even living not far from this spots, we can feel the difference of the temperature. In this image we can clearly see the different of the zones of the city 2- Which are the measures you would propose? I would encourage: 1- Use of more non motorized vehicles as bikes 2- More trees in the streets 3- Sustainable buildings, that use more natural ventilation and less conditioning air in general, more care with the free spaces in the city, to help the city to “breathe” 3 - Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? Yes, it is. About two months ago the city hall developed the green roof law, that makes from now on every residential or nonresidential building with more than 4 floors to use the green roof. The principal goal is to decrease the heat effects, because green roof buildings can achieve at least 6°C less than the temperature of it's surrounding.
