The climate in Mexico City varies greatly throughout the seasons, from intense cold to intense heat and sun all day with long weeks of rain; it varies due to the altitude where we have a temperate climate in urban and very cold area at the top of the mountains. Mexico City has a temperate climate, with annual average temperature of 16.6 ° C. The temperature range in different seasons is pronounced: summer and spring are warm (average maximum 28 ° C) and winters are cold, with minimum can drop to 0 ° C. The warmest month is May (average maximum of 32 ° C), when the rains still have not increased. January is the coldest month; there have been up -3ºC absolute minimum. In the pictures below I’ll show you that Mexico city is a Valley we can see that the main urban area is in the center where we can have the heat islands if we move to the mountains the areas are more rural and the temperature is lower as you can see there is a mountain at the back and the other is a volcano they are near the city but out, near we have mountains that when is winter they can also have snow and very low temperatures like the volcano Ajusco that is in the city people can live near this volcano, the last pictures are from a rural area not so close to my home but very well known by tourist Xochimilco this area is mostly vegetation and the lake here we can notice that temperature is lower. Mexico city as you could see is a big metropolis and has many microclimates, there is a lack of urban planning that leads to long distances and a bad public transport service it is not also inefficient but is not enough for all the population, generating that most people use the car, there is also a bad urban planning when we think in green areas government has priority in build big buildings for people but in many areas the green areas are not sufficient for the people living there, sidewalks in many areas are out of threes, producing heat islands in a big level. ![][1] Which are the measures you would propose? It is necessary an urban and landscape planning project in many areas to control overpopulation and lack of green areas, public transport needs to improve so people can have a choice of not using the car, sidewalks need to have more green there is an increase of buildings having gardens in the roof but we need more. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? Yes they are having actions maybe not enough but some of them are like they reduce the annual price we pay to government for our buildings if we have green areas or gardens in the roof, they have increased the programs of bicycles in the street so we can move nearby using them, all Sundays they close the streets just to make them for the bicycles and stop using the car, once a month they close bigger areas for the same purpose , they are changing some buses for electric ones, and they gave permission to Uber to have the Uberpool where we share car on our trip.
