Uruguay is a small country surrounded by water. It's a country which main income is generated by agriculture and cattle raising. A curious fact is that in the country there are more cows than people : 3.3 million people and more than 11 million cows (almost 5 million are breeding cows). Uruguay's production is heavily dependent on food production, and this sector accounts for 70% of national exports. Uruguay's total agricultural sector currently produces food for 28 million people, while the country has a population of 3.3 million. Uruguay is a country with no net deforestation; this is quite a unique attribute among developing countries. The total coverage of native forests has, actually, increased in the past 30 years, and it is now 752000 hectares. 100% of electricity is generated by alternative renawable sources, mainly windmills. The rest of the energy comes from imported oil and biomass. 2. Main climate protection targets From the "Intended Nationally Determined Contribution" document: ![ingrese la descripción de la imagen aquí][1] 3. How does your country want to reach these targets? - Different programs going from carbon sequestration - Clean energy generation - Reduce emissions intensity by enhancing productivity and efficiency in beef, dairy and rice production - Incorporate energy storage systems to manage the wind power surplus. - Implement BRT corridors for metropolitan public transport. - Introduce electric and hybrid private and public vehicles. - Increase the percentage of biofuels in gasoline and diesel oil blends. - Introduce public and private vehicles that support a higher percentage of biofuel blends. - Improve treatment and final disposal systems of solid urban waste. 4. What is your opinion about you country’s approach of the environmental issues? (e.g. are the targets feasible? Is the approach feasible? Would you approach the problem in a different way?) Is 100% feasible but burocracy usually plays a trick on timing for the different implementation projects. [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14472547057042633.jpg
