![enter image description here][1] ![enter image description here][2] This ecosystem offers the following affordances: a. Provisioning services: River Water b. Regulating services: As the irrigated forests reached full-bloom, the climate in Faisalabad region has experienced an average increase of 90.4 m in annual rainfall from 1975 to 2003 (http://www.fspublishers.org/published_papers/82114_..pdf) and much of this increase cannot be correlated with local temperature trends. Moreover the canals draining the city into the river downstream are a sink for the runoff drainage from the agri-plantations and domestic use. ![The Central Canal on Spring Festival Eve][3] c. Habitat: The forestation has allowed blossoming of local biodiversity, both fauna and flora. Many species of deer have been bred in captivity and released into the forest areas to thrive. The Agricultural University of Faisalabad keeps a log of the many insect and snail species in the local agri-plantations. Recent years have seen a significant drop in the number of garden frog species partly due to city expansion and perhaps partly due to altered fauna as a result of pesticide use. d. Cultural services: The Canal runs through the centre of the city an forms the centre of attraction for various festivities such as the Spring Festival of Lights (pictured above). The canal irrigated forests are a favorite hangout for local residents on off days.
