These are the Sankey diagram of Italy. ![Sankey diagram Italy, balance][1] ![Sankey diagram Italy, final consumption][2] As we can see from the diagrams, the energy system is lying on oil and natural gas, and both for the most part are imported. **2 - Where are the dominant fossil fuels mainly used for in your country?** Oil products: mainly transport (road), but also other and non-energy use. Natural gas: mainly other use (residential, commerce and public services), but also industry. **3 - It is your task to create a new policy in order to improve the environmental friendly and sustainable sources and consumption of energy of your country. How would you do that? Think of how you can improve the sources and the consumption of energy.** As pointed out in Question 2 I consider necessary to intervene in the transport and residential. Transport: roads are responsible for 30.8 Mtoe of oil products while domestic navigation is responsible for 1 Mtoe. ![roads][3] ![domestic navigation][4] I would put in place a bilateral strategy: on the one hand to promote the use of efficient vehicles and electric ones, on the other to encourage car sharing and rental. Public transport should be electric, and more bikes-sharing stations should be added all through the city, also in suburbs. Bicycles can be made mass used thanks to subsidies or penalties (less tax if you go to work by bicycle, for example) and the study of an appropriate network of lanes both urban and extra-municipal, as various example in other countries (as ex: Radschnellweg, Germany; London Superhighways). Residential is a real problem for UHI increase of temperature and a threat related to public health. ![residential pie chart][5] As we can see now the situation is lying for more than 50 percent on gas and oil. Renewable energy should became the most used, solar energy should be sufficient for all households and service buildings. I would research a way to convert the energy stowed on paved roads in clean energy that can be used for housing. Also recycling policy should be improved and made more effective (notice Sweden, for example, which have a good recycling policy and buys waste from other country, including Italy), this represents also a great challenge to citizens’ habits.
