Milk and milk products mostly come directly from the cattle-raising state of Brandenburg, which is a very rural area surrounding Berlin. During the fall, many Berliners undertake mushroom foraging in one of the many forested areas around the city. ![enter image description here][1] There is also a growing interest in urban farming and most notably, beekeeping. ![][2] An extraordinary quantity of good quality groundwater is in vast abundance in Berlin (contained within what is referred to as the Berlin-Warsaw Glacial Valley). There are also many lakes in Berlin, and many locals take up fishing for recreation. The biggest of these lakes by area is the Müggelsee, which hosts one of the many waterworks around the city. Deep wells are located near the banks, mainly fed by the bank filtrate and only to a small share by groundwater. b. Regulating services Sadly, the main river that flows through Berlin, the Spree is too polluted and unsafe for swimming. This is the result of the rising iron and sulfate levels as well as years of lignite mining, ancient rainwater catchment system in the city, and the fact that the Spree doesn't flow fast enough. Overall air quality in Berlin is good. There are dense forested areas all over the city which help in filtering harmful particles. ![Grabbed from deine-berge.de][3] c. Habitat or Supporting services Berlin is host to protected marshlands, forests, and lakes, which provide ample habitat for a variety of wildlife. It is also of note that some foxes and wild boars have also made the parks in the city their homes as it is easier to forage for food in the city. ![Grabbed from the official website of the borough of Zehlendorf][4] d. Cultural services The low point of living in Berlin is that it is part of the vast Great European Plain (pun not intentional) and is thus, very damn flat. It is also far from the coast but there are ample 'beaches' scattered around the city. There are many lakes safe for swimming, and water quality is closely monitored. Berlin's extensive waterways provide kayaking options, sailing, and boating. ![Grabbed from Berlin Kayak Tours on yelp][5] [1]: http://www.miniloft.com/images/FreeCopyrightPhotos/rusula.jpg [2]: http://e360.yale.edu/slideshow/urban_beekeeping_bringing_bees_back_to_berlin_/15/3/ [3]: http://www.deine-berge.de/fotos/pois/original/Drachenberg_10206.jpg [4]: https://www.zehlendorf.de/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/krumme-lanke-08.jpg [5]: http://s3-media3.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/P5LVJEEi1EFtqMt1mqlFAw/ls.jpg
