- Provisioning service Maine is very focused on local, and local food is readily available. Much of it comes from certified organic farms growing on lands under permanent conservation easements. Maine also has significant forests which provides wood for construction, manufacturing and heat. ![Farmer's Market][1] -Regulating Service The maritime climate helps buffer Portland from a bit of the weather one would expect from Northern New England otherwise. Portland itself in on Casco Bay which protects the city from severe storms in the North Alantic. A significant area of salt marshes occur around the city. These provide significant filtering of pollutants from industry (Portland is one of the largest oil ports in the United States) and also act to sequester some carbon as the fast growing grass is buried each year. ![Fort Georges][2] -Habitat Supporting services The salt marshes provide an amazing location for migratory birds. Over 8.6 million overnight stays in 2014 generating over 200 million in local tax reveue and supporting 33,800 jobs in the metro area of 500,000.
