A. Provisioning Services: Food: In the Flemish region inside the province of Limbourg, there is a long agricultural tradition. Arable land covers 65% of the total surface (Statistics Belgium, 2006). During the last three decades, the area covered by summer crops (sugar beet, maize, potatoes. and chicory) increased at the expense of winter cereals (Evrard et al., 2007). B. Regulating Services: These summer crops provide little cover to the soil during the thunderstorms that occur during late spring or early summer. During intense rain storms, soil crusts with very low infiltration capacity are formed, resulting in ‘Muddy floods’ (water flowing from agricultural fields carrying large quantities of soil as suspended sediment or bedload (Boardman et al., 2006 Erosion prevention and maintenance of soil fertility: In 2001, the adoption of the ‘Erosion Act’, made funds available for municipalities to implement soil erosion control measures (Evrard et al., in press) with the objective to reduce soil erosion and muddy flooding. C. Habitat or Supporting services: Habitats for species: In the park of Woluwe we can find a big diversity of species. An habitat like this one provide everything that an individual plant or animal needs to survive: food; water; and shelter. D. Cultural services: Recreation and mental and physical health: The Woluwe park is one of the biggest ones in the city, with big green areas, paths, lakes and a big diversity of nature. Walking and playing sports in green space like that is not only a good form of physical exercise but also lets people relax. ![A. Provisioning and regulating Services][1] ![C.
