Regulating services - clean air - the Vistula river valley is largely unbuilt and not regulated, and it crosses the city from southeast towards northwest. It provides clean air into the heart of the city from the dominating wind direction (west). Habitat or Supporting services - the river valley is largely covered by forrest and trees, even in the very heart of Warsaw, which is a rare case among Polish and Western metropoles. The forrest and trees provide habitat for a large number of wild species, so that you can meet rare birds or other animals inside the city. Cultural services - the riverside covered by unregulated forrest is a popular place for walk and recreation among urban dwellers. There is an ongoing project to disseminate knowledge about the nature of the river and its banks - brochures with birds, maps and small handbooks are handed over to people. The sandy beach of the river became a popular place for spending free time and meeting up. ![Recreational walkpath on the riverside][1] ![Other form of recreation: cycling and orienteering][2] ![Sandy beach, in the summer a popular meeting place][3] ![The city center seen from the riverside covered by trees][4] [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/1449094378186502.jpg [2]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14490944063179579.jpg [3]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14490098757249815.jpg [4]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14490098972616032.jpg
