*1. What are the dominant fossil fuels used in your country?* The dominant fossil fuel used in Greece is imported oil. More than half of it is exported again after refinemets. The second fuel in Greece is coal production with high CO2 emissions. It is worth to notice the absence of nuclear power in Greece. This is a political decision due to the small size of the country and due to the frequent erthquakes. ![][1] *2. Where are the dominant fossil fuels mainly used for in your country? (e.g. transport, industry, non-energy use etc.)* Oil is the dominant fossil fuel in Greece and over 65% of it is consumed by transportation. The second largest consumption is by residential buildings, mainly by electricity and by a significant amount of oil. The third largest consumption are industrial buildings with a balanced consumption mainly of electricity and oil. ![][2] *3. It is your task to create a new policy in order to improve the environmental friendly and sustainable sources and consumption of energy of your country. How would you do that? Think of how you can improve the sources and the consumption of energy* Regarding the sources of energy, I would try to eliminate the coal production and increase the production of renewable energy with solar parks in the numerous uninhabited islands. Additionaly I would examine the possibilites of nuclear energy in order to decrease the overall CO2 emissions in the country. To control the energy consumption, knowing that Greece is not an industrial country, I would aim to improve the public transportation and improve the energy efficiency of residential and public buildings.
